Biography

In 2008/2009, Corey Anderson began wondering if there was a better way for families to resolve conflicts during their separation and divorce. In December 2009, Corey started working with Fairway Divorce Solutions. Since then, he has mediated more than 500 cases and has helped countless families to find solutions to complex and overwhelming challenges through the step by step, Independently Negotiated Resolution™ process.

Corey has a unique ability to understand both the financial details and the family dynamics that blend together during a divorce process.

As a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, Corey recognizes the long-term effect that each financial decision can have and the need to see beyond the moment. Where necessary, Corey will lead a team of people (actuaries, lawyers, accountants, mortgage specialists, credit counsellors, etc.) to ensure that you have all the information necessary to make well informed and thought through decisions about your financial future.

What I do here matters. By assisting people to ask and answer the right questions, I empower families to make well-informed and well-thought-through decisions. As decisions are made, stress is often reduced, and people can move forward with their lives.

Professional and Personal Experiences

Corey enjoys working with families and parents to find a fair outcome for complicated businesses, pensions, debt restructuring/bankruptcies and even the financial pressures to families resulting from criminal prosecution. Corey believes that the key to resolving complex financial challenges is to gather as much information as possible, ensure its accuracy, and listen to the conflicting parties to determine what everyone needs. Once all of the information is available and understood, we can begin looking into meeting each person’s needs. Corey will work with you to coordinate financial disclosure, prepare net worth statements, project future earnings, negotiate property division, child and spousal support. As a part of this process, Corey will map out financial plans and strategies for individuals and families.

Corey begins his parenting plans with the assumption that although the marriage is ending, the family continues and therefore needs to define new strategies. Corey believes that conflict coaching is the first step in establishing new communication strategies for parents going through a divorce. Parenting plans tend to proactively resolve conflicts around child custody schedules, child support, section 7 child-related expenses, holidays, travel, new partners, decision making processes and mobility issues. Corey will mediate comprehensive parenting plans intended to anticipate and resolve conflict so that when a problem arises, the co-parents are prepared to deal with their dispute quickly and (if at all possible) without court involvement. Corey has been trained as a parenting coordinator through the Alberta Family Mediation Society (AFMS). In his previous career as a pastor, Corey focused much of his attention on working with teens and families to process and understand day-to-day challenges and emotionally driven conflicts. Corey uses these skills to coach co-parents as they work to maintain respectful communication, even when emotions are heightened. It was during this time that Corey developed the heart of a leader, a caregiver, as well as his ability as an effective communicator and teacher.

Since 2017, Corey has been a presenter at the annual Turbulence seminar through the EP Wahl Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. Corey teaches the idea that conflict will show us more about ourselves than someone else and therefore conflict helps us grow and heal from our hurts. By looking at the origin and development of our conflict we can learn a great deal about our priorities and the expectations we have of others. Corey is in the early stages of writing a book on what conflict can teach us about ourselves and how to grow through it.

When not working, Corey entertains himself with his four children, their love of paleontology and his interest in cryptozoology. Corey has a collection of dinosaur fossils and has recently participated in dinosaur digs in Wyoming.
